How would the Swedish Pirate Party's platform affect copylefted free software? After five years, its source code would go into the public domain, and proprietary software developers would be able to include it in their programs.
but with all things in Public Domain after you make the changes you can still license your changes under the GNU GPL. It would work something like a dual license every 5 years, wouldn't it?
Example: lets take linux the kernel. After 5 years thus in 2014 it's source code becomes public domain. The developers make changes to some parts of it and rebundle it all under the license of their choice (either be it copyleft or non-copyleft),
...and then in 2019 it becomes public domain again.
...and in 2024 it becomes public domain...but in the meantime it can still be relicensed under GNU GPL.
Proprietary software will be free but only the binaries, but we won't use these "freedom takers" for the same reasons we don't use them today.
